Notion de temps d'apprentissage et son évaluation en situation d'enseignement

Le présent article comprend deux parties. Nous faisons état, dans la première partie, du cheminement qui a permis d'identifier le temps consacré à l'apprentissage par les étudiants comme étant une variable déterminante dans l'étude de l'efficacité de l'enseignement. Il est question de la notion de « temps d'apprentissage » telle qu'elle fut définie par ses premiers promoteurs. Puis, nous décrivons comment cette notion a été intégrée au secteur de la recherche en efficacité de l'enseignement de l'éducation physique. Nous présentons, dans la deuxième partie, une description générale d'un système d'observation qui permet d'évaluer le temps consacré à l'apprentissage par les étudiants. Ce système est une version française du système « ALT-PE » mis au point par Siedentop, Birdwell et Metzler (1979). Nous l'avons utilisé pour décrire des séances d'enseignement de l'éducation physique en milieu scolaire. Enfin, nous terminons en faisant état des possibilités d'adaptation du système.
