Practical Reasoning in Corrections Education

Some recent literature in corrections education has focussed on the need to develop the quality of thinking and reasoning of inmates. As part of a research project, The Association for Values Education and Research (AVER) at the University of British Columbia conducted a course on "Critical Thinking" at a medium security institution. Over a six-week period students were exposed to some of the competencies deemed necessary for rational thought. Results have lent credence to the belief that the approach used would be appropriate to corrections education.
