Le Conditionnement Instrumental d’Ordre Supérieur dans la Théorie de l’Apprentissage d’Arthur W. Staats

Résumé

Staats (1964) a énoncé un principe de conditionnement instrumental d’ordre supérieur: si un stimulus neutre se présente en contiguïté avec un stimulus directif qui a acquis le contrôle d’une réponse instrumentale, il devient un stimulus directif pour cette réponse. Le principe est soumis à vérification expérimentale. Les sujets sont 48 jeunes débiles mentaux moyens (QI 25 à 55) des deux sexes, âgés de 6 à 18 ans, fréquentant une école publique spéciale. Les stimuli droite et gauche intégrés aux directives: “montre ta main droite,” “montre ta main gauche,” ont une valeur directive faible ou nulle; les stimuli pour manger et l’autre main intégrés aux directives: “montre ta main pour manger,” “montre l’autre main,” ont une valeur directive élevée. Le traitement du groupe expérimental consiste à présenter les stimuli en contiguïté dans des directives: “montre ta main droite pour manger,” “montre ta main gauche, l’autre main,” si le sujet est droitier et l’inverse s’il est gaucher. Les résultats indiquent des différences significatives de la valeur directive des stimuli droite et gauche entre le prétest et le posttest dans le groupe expérimental et entre le groupe témoin et le groupe expérimental, au posttest, avec une probabilité inférieure à 0.0000005. Ils tendent à valider le principe du conditionnement instrumental d’ordre supérieur.
