The qualitative approach to education research has yet to find its identity and define itself. This text is intended as a contribution to the process of definition. It attempts to answer the following three questions on the basis of a museum education project: (a) Do qualitative and quantitative research require procedures that exclude each other? (b) Does the qualitative approach ensure a comprehensive view of the phenomena studied? (c) Does the rapidity of the analyzed phenomenon influence how the facts are gathered?
