Research in Canadian Teacher Education: Promises and Problems

Les auteurs font une revue critique de divers travaux de recherche sur la formation des maîtres au Canada dans le but d’identifier les secteurs où des études ont été réalisées et de suggérer de nouvelles avenues de recherche. Les 102 travaux de recherche passés en revue traitaient, dans l’ensemble, de la pratique de l’enseignement, des caractéristiques de l’étudiant et de l’efficacité des programmes. Dans ces domaines, un large éventail de sujets a été couvert, avec très peu de chevauchements. L’approche méthodologique généralement utilisée a été un paradigme empirique-analytique. Les auteurs concluent que les recherches futures devront mettre l’accent sur le contexte de la formation des maîtres, les choix qui s’offrent aux planificateurs et les concepts qui guident la préparation des enseignants. Pour cela, il faudra une approche méthodologique plus libérale; il faudra également élargir le concept de la recherche.
